Whether you want current news, events from the past, are doing family history or just browsing, newspapers have many uses.
Here in the Hastings we have a rich heritage of newspapers with the oldest dating from 1882.
Our diverse communities are served by three weekly newspapers, each one reporting on the major news stories of Port Macquarie, the Camden Haven and Wauchope. All three newspapers are available to view on microfilm at the Port Macquarie Library. Recent years are also available in hard copy at each branch library
The Port Macquarie-Hastings and Kempsey Shire Library Services have begun a program to digitize their newspaper holdings. The files are only available on computers within the libraries.
A brochure about accessing newspaper archives at your library is available for download.
The National Library of Australia has developed an online archive of Australian newspapers with coverage from the earliest papers through to 1954. This is an ongoing project and the Port Macquarie News has now been included covering the years 1882-1950.
