Each year across Australia, the Children’s Book Council of Australia (CBCA) brings children and books together celebrating CBCA Book Week. This year we have some awesome events… so get involved.
Book of the Year Reading Challenge
12 October – 31 October
The annual CBCA Book of the Year Awards is on again and we have a great selection of Shortlisted books, so tick off each book as you read it!

Curious Creatures Colouring Competition
12 October – 23 October
Ages 0-10 years
Show off your colouring skills in our Curious Creatures Colouring Competition. There are prizes to be won, and all entries will be displayed in the library.
Simply download and print out the colouring sheet, and colour the curious creatures in any bright colours of your choice. You can also draw your very own curious creature in the blank space provided!
Once you have completed your colouring, write your name, age, and email address on the back of the page and bring it in to your closest participating library (Port Macquarie, Wauchope or Laurieton). The completed entries will be displayed together in the library and winners will be notified by email at the end of October.
Young Writers Short Story Competition
12th October – 23rd October
Ages 8-18 years
Feeling inspired to create a story of your own? Read something from the Shortlisted books for Book Week and get inspired to write your own wondrous tale. A shortlist of the best submissions will be made available on our website for people to read, so if you want to be one of the special few, get your entry in soon!
The short story should be no more than 1000 words for 8-12 year olds, and no more than 2000 words for 13-18 year olds. There are prizes to be won, and winners will be selected from each age group. When you have completed your short story attach your work to and complete the following online form:
