Street Library

Take a book ~ give a book ~ share a book

Street Libraries are a beautiful home for books, planted in your front yard. They are accessible from the street, and are an invitation to share the joys of reading with your neighbours. Find a street library near you.

Street Libraries are a window into the mind of a community; books come and go; no-one needs to check them in or out. People can simply reach in and take what interests them; when they are done, they can return them to the Street Library network, or pass them on to friends.

Port Macquarie Hastings Library and PMHC are big fans of the Street Library movement. Port Macquarie already boasted 5 street libraries, and in 2019, have given away 10 more.

If anyone has a book or two that they think others would enjoy, they can just pop it into any Street Library they happen to be walking past.

Buy a street Library

If you are interested in starting up a street library in your neighbourhood you can build one yourself from scratch or buy a kit online which you can then assemble and decorate. Get a collection of books together and start letting your neighbours know to get involved. Don’t forget to register your site with streetlibrary.org.au and get your street library on the map.
