Home Library

For those unable to visit the library due to age, illness or immobility, the Home Library Service maintains a vital connection across the Mid North Coast with all that the library offers. 

Port Macquarie

Do you or a loved one have difficulty getting to the library due to ill health? We can help by bringing the library to you with our free Home Library Delivery Services in the Port Macquarie area. There are no age restrictions for this service, with fortnightly deliveries available. After an initial consultation with staff, we are able to select and deliver items based on your preferences. You are also welcome to make selections via the online catalogue for us to deliver.

Members of the Port Macquarie Lions’ Club generously contribute their time making our home deliveries.  Port Macquarie Library Service has been working in partnership with the Lions’ Club for over 50 years!

Who is Eligible?

Services are available to residents of the Port Macquarie area who are:

  • living with a disability, poor health or chronic illness.
  • Living in residential establishments, such as nursing homes, hostels and supported-accommodation houses.
  • able to visit a library, but because of frailty, disability or chronic conditions are unable to carry items home.
  • engaged in full-time care for people.
  • young children in the care of any of the above groups.

If you are convalescing at home following an illness, injury or operation, or are housebound due to pregnancy or childbirth recovery, we may be able to provide a temporary home library service. 

If you are able to visit the library but have difficulty accessing or funding transport, free asistance is available via Linked Community Services on 02 6583 8644.

What we Offer

Fortnightly delivery on Friday’s. Dates are dependent on where your locality aligns with our delivery runs. After an initial consultation with staff, we will confirm the dates we are able to deliver. We will select and deliver items based on your preferences, you are also welcome to make selections via the online catalogue or contact our Home Library Coordinator to make requests.

A range of media types are available to borrow from the library’s collection including:

  • Books in standard or large print
  • Audiobooks (HCDs and MP3s)
  • Music CDs
  • DVDs and Blu rays
  • Magazines

Kempsey

Kempsey Library provides a free home delivery service for residents living in Kempsey and surrounds who are unable to visit the library due to illness, injury, disability or carer responsibilities.

All library resources are available through this service.

Who is eligible?

You may be eligible if you:

  • are frail, aged, or have an illness or disability which confines you to your home
  • are a full-time carer and are unable to visit the library in person
  • have temporary ill health preventing you from getting out and about.

A full range of materials are available in a variety of formats:

  • Large print books
  • Standard print books
  • Magazines
  • Talking books (books on CD)
  • DVDs
  • CDs

You will be asked for:

  • your personal details
  • the name and phone number of your emergency contact person
  • your reading, listening or viewing preferences
  • how often you would like to receive your deliveries
  • permission to enter your property for the purpose of delivering and collecting library items

Please note, to assist staff in confirming your eligibility for this service, you will be required to obtain the signature of either a doctor, nurse, pharmacist, social or community worker
