COMPUTER ACCESS
Port Macquarie-Hastings & Kempsey Shire Libraries provide computer access, including broadband internet and the Microsoft Office suite of programs (e.g. Word, Excel etc.)
Computer use at Port Macquarie-Hastings Libraries is free to library members for a maximum of two hours per day. Please see our current Fees & Charges for computer charges for non-members.
Kempsey library provides booking for 1 hour sessions up to 7 days in advance.
Computer users are expected to be able to use the machines without instruction. Staff will help save and print documents but will not be able to format documents for you.
You may use your own USB memory sticks. However, you do so at your own risk. We cannot guarantee security from viruses or accidental damage.

The Library offers wireless networking to visitors at all locations during its operating hours FREE of charge. This service connects your laptop or other wireless-enabled device to the Internet through the Library’s network.

CONNECTING
- Power up your laptop or device.
- Open wireless networks and connect to the library network using one of the following available networks: “Port Macquarie Library”, “Laurieton Library”, “Wauchope Library”, “PMHCouncil-FREE-wifi” or “Library Free Wi-fi”
- When you open your web browser a security certificate warning may appear – choose to continue on or make an exception.
- You do not need a user name or password but you will need to agree to the terms and conditions.
TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS
- You will need a laptop or other device with standard inbuilt wireless or wireless LAN card/USB.
- Your laptop must be configured to ‘Obtain an IP address automatically’ (DHCP).
- Please note that the library is unable to provide technical assistance to configure equipment for wireless access.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION:
- Printing is only available via mobile printing OR if the document can be saved to a USB drive.
- Do not leave your laptop or other devices unattended. The library cannot guarantee the security of your equipment or personal items.
- Please note that communications over a wireless network are not secure and information sent to or from your laptop or other devices can be captured by anyone else.
- The library assumes no responsibility for any damage, direct or indirect, arising from your use of the wireless service, including virus transmission, pop-ups or spyware.
ARE THERE ANY RESTRICTIONS TO USING THIS SERVICE?
Port Macquarie Branch Library provides access to free WiFi 7 days a week however there are download speed limits (restricted to 3mbps) and a daily data download limit of 1GB.
N.B. Users of laptops or other mobile devices must comply with the Library’s Internet Services Policy
Kempsey branches, Wauchope and Laurieton have access to Free Wifi within business hours.
DO I REQUIRE ANY ADDITIONAL SOFTWARE TO ACCESS THE INTERNET?
It is highly recommended that patrons have installed and are running up-to-date Antivirus / Antispam software. It is also recommended that privacy software (such as a personal firewall) be in place for your own security
PRINTING, SCANNING & COPYING
PRINTING AND PHOTOCOPYING
Printing and photocopying facilities are available at all library branches.
You can print from our public PCs, from your own USB flash drive, or wirelessly from your own device (see Mobile Printing below).
Self service photocopiers are available. Library staff can provide assistance if required.
Colour and black & white photocopying is available in A4 and A3 sizes. See Fees & Charges
SCANNING
Scanners are available for use at all library branches. Assistance can be provided by staff.
MOBILE PRINTING
The libraries mobile printing enables you to remotely upload images and documents to our remote print queue.
- Access the mobile printing service from your device
- Enter your member code as the user name e.g. A100000
- Enter your date of birth as the password in the format ddmmyy
- Once logged in, upload your file then select the appropriate printing options
- Use your card as normal to login into the library printer to release the job
If you are doing this from home, please note jobs will only stay in the printer’s queue for 24 hours.
3D PRINTING
The Port Macquarie-Hastings Library provides a 3D Printing service available to the community.
