Saturday June 24, 2:30 pm – 4:00 pm
Port Macquarie Library
32 Grant St
Port Macquarie, New South Wales 2444 Australia
Three much loved Australian authors with three new releases to share with us. Please join us on Saturday 24th June at 2.30pm in our Port Macquarie Library for a panel chat with Janette Paul, Karly Lane, Sandie Docker and our resident chatter Leanne.
SANDIE DOCKER grew up in Coffs Harbour, and first fell in love with reading when her father introduced her to fantasy books as a teenager. Her love of Women’s Fiction began when she first read Jane Austen for the HSC, but it wasn’t until she was taking a translation course at university that her Mandarin lecturer suggested she might have a knack for writing – a seed of an idea that sat quietly in the back of her mind while she lived overseas and travelled the world. Now back in Sydney, Sandie writes about love, loss, family and small country towns. The Kookaburra Creek Café was released in 2018, followed The Cottage At Rosella Cove, The Banksia Bay Beach Shack and The Wattle Island Book Club. The Redgum River Retreat is her 2023 release. Sandie is also the founder and director of The Northern Beaches Readers Festival.
THE REDGUM RIVER RETREAT
Single mother Sarah is guilt-ridden when an accident leaves her young daughter Melody seriously injured and their once music-filled lives silent. When she discovers her grandmother Rosalie’s war correspondence, she thinks she might have found a way to save her family, but it will require a leap of faith …
In 1945 Rosalie is desperate to forge a career as a journalist, and taking photos for soldiers serving in the war might just lead to the job of her dreams. But when two brothers she’s been corresponding with come home to Redgum River, her life is turned upside down, and she flees, vowing to never return.
Decades on, the hope that a music retreat can help Melody lures the three generations of women to Redgum River, where Sarah draws together the threads of Rosalie’s past. A heartbreaking family mystery comes to light, and they discover that the ghosts of the past can lead them to their future, and they might all be more in tune than they first thought.
Welcome to the Redgum River Retreat, where harmony is found when hope is lost.
KARLY LANE lives on the beautiful mid-North Coast of New South Wales, and she is the proud mum of four children and an assortment of four-legged animals. When she isn’t at her keyboard, Karly can be found hanging out with her beloved horses and dogs, happily ignoring the housework. Karly writes Rural and Women’s Fiction set in small country towns, blending contemporary stories with historical heritage. She is a passionate advocate for rural Australia, with a focus on rural communities and current issues. She has published twenty-one books with Allen & Unwin.
TIME AFTER TIME
A stunning new rural romance from the bestselling author with over 500,000 books sold.
JANETTE PAUL is an internationally published author of contemporary women’s fiction and romantic comedy, and is the alter ego of award-winning suspense author Jaye Ford. Her first novel won two Davitt Awards for Australian women crime writers and her books have been translated into nine languages. She is a former news and sport journalist, was the first woman to host a live national sport show on Australian TV and ran her own public relations consultancy before turning to fiction. She now writes from her home in Newcastle, New South Wales.
THE SUMMER PLACE
As three women return to the summer place of their youth for a beach wedding, each is grappling with the cards life has dealt them. Erin, recovering from a near-fatal cycling accident, is the reluctant maid of honour. Still coming to terms with her devastating injuries, will she find what she needs to walk down the aisle with all eyes on her? Years ago, Jenna fell in love with the groom at his family’s treasured holiday spot. Will watching him marry someone else finally allow her to get over him?
Cassie, living in Barcelona and recently widowed, is desperate to move on from her grief. The invitation to return to Australia for the wedding will give her a chance to step away from her life – and come to terms with more than she bargained for.
Emotions run high as each woman faces a crossroad, yet they will find that the place at the coast offers all of them a chance to learn to heal, love and belong . . .
