Join us at Port Macquarie Library Thursday 13 April @ 10.00am for Shibashi.
Tai Chi Qigong Shibashi, is a Chinese movement and meditation system, comprising 18 exercises, characterised by gentle. movements, deep breathing, and a meditative state of mind.
It improves general health and wellbeing, by reducing mental stress and physical tension.
There are over 10 million practitioners in the world, and it is suitable for all ages including the elderly. There is a seated version for those with mobility issues.
In many parks in Sydney, you often see groups of people practicing Shibashi.
It is far less complex than the practice of Tai Chi as it is a set of 18 repetitive exercises, done while following the leader. It can be learnt as a prelude to learning Tai Chi or as a warm up for a Tai Chi practice.
Beris Derwent worked as a counsellor for most of her working life, and incorporated creative activities and Shibashi practice as important components of wellbeing. In retirement she has taught Shibashi for several years with U3A as well as providing wellbeing sessions, to community services staff and clients(which include drumming and Shibashi), and community groups in Kempsey.
Participants should check with their doctor if they have medical problems.
Comfortable clothes should be worn.
