Please join us for an author chat and poetry reading with Tahlia Gobius and Leanne at our Port Macquarie Library on Tuesday 18th March at 4.30pm.
Tahlia was raised in a loving, supportive and wholesome environment and has experienced many amazing things. Unfortunately, she has also struggled with mental illness. Suicide has been a big part of Tahlia’s life, but she has learned to live out her passion, find the fullness of life and recognises the hope that continues to exist.
Tahlia has always felt like she has a writer inside, in a place that was too far to reach. More recently she has been able to tap into that well and get her experiences down on paper.
BECOMING
‘Becoming is a journey. From the suicidal themes addressed in the first chapter: ‘drowning’, through to the coping and fighting and thriving in ‘surviving’, ‘coping’, healing and ‘blossoming’.
It is an exploration of an extreme of the human experience. I use a lot of metaphors to bring to light the difficulties which have plagued my life, but also how I have grown and developed. It starts out as very intense and intentionally focused on one idea. As you move through the poems it begins to branch out and shows how I lived through these pains, and the strengths I have to show for it.’ Tahlia
