Join us at Port library on October 24th at 6.30pm for the story of the STORYBOX, a lively academic panel discussion on birds, ecology and how the digital storytelling cube came to life. Including a reproduction of Gould’s Birds of Australia
In conjunction with the STORYBOX installation on Town Green the Port Macquarie Library will have a reproduction of John Gould’s ‘Birds of Australia’ on display for public viewing in the Library.
Created for this touring installation, this sumptuous volume showcases the contribution and artistry of bird artist (and John Gould’s wife) Elizabeth Gould. Each original plate was copied from sketches and paintings made by Elizabeth in the field on the Gould’s Australian journey and then printed and hand-painted by colourists working in London. An exact copy of the volume is still held in the Australian Museum Rare.
Books Collection, the replica volume has been made to give visitors a hands-on, tactile experience of the beauty, size and ambition of the Gould’s bird project.
Supper will be provided
