Rafael Ben-Ari is an award-winning international documentary travel photographer, filmmaker, and veteran photojournalist with over three decades of experience capturing visual stories around the globe. His career began in 1990 as a military photographer and imagery intelligence analyst, leading him to study photojournalism in New York and Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design in Jerusalem.
Known for his striking conflict imagery and documentary travel features, Rafael’s photographs have been published by major international outlets, including The New York Times, National Geographic, Lonely Planet, and Travel + Leisure. In 2019, he was recognized as one of the top ten best photographers in the world by Pouted Magazine.
Today, Rafael focuses on extensive documentary projects across the Oceania region—including an immersive three-year road trip documenting the landscapes and indigenous cultures of Australia—and dedicates his time to mentoring the next generation of visual storytellers through workshops and masterclasses.
