Congratulations to John for Being Frank’s 2024 nomination in the Margaret and Colin Roderick Literary Awards!

John Lavis has been writing all his life, as a teacher for his students, as a school Principal for his community and as a father for his children. Now retired he has written this memoir as a promise to his own father, Frank, on his death bed, that he would be the dutiful son and turn Frank’s diaries into a book for the Lavis family. He was not to know the family secrets that would be revealed.

BEING FRANK – a man from Snowy River

When a tragic accident took the life of his son, Frank spent the years that followed documenting everything. Struggling with dyslexia and low self-esteem, Frank proceeded to fill diary after diary with all the inner turmoil and heartbreak of a man with hidden depth.

From his love/hate relationship with his god, to his attempts to understand what his own life was all about, Frank reveals family secrets and doesn’t pull any punches as he ponders on the time passed and the future ahead.

Brutally honest, Being Frank is an amazing array of stories and characters that will jump out at you unexpectedly. A story to make you laugh and cry but, above all, that will leave you with hope…
