This is an alcohol free event

CDAT and Port Macquarie Library invite you to a relaxed and informative panel discussion in the library, featuring individuals with lived experiences of drug and alcohol addiction and as well as professional experience working in the sector, offering a unique perspective on both personal and systemic challenges in addiction and recovery. This event offers a safe space to explore important issues surrounding addiction, recovery, and the journey towards healing.

The panel will be led by moderator Leanne . You’ll hear firsthand from three panelists who will share their personal and professional stories, offering insights into the challenges and triumphs of addiction recovery.

Speaker 1: Jamie Laughton

Jamie is a Peer Support Worker at The Buttery’s Drug and Alcohol Treatment Program located at Port Macquarie’s Healthy Hub Connect. In his role, Jamie supports individuals aged 12 and over on their recovery journeys, focusing on maintaining abstinence and preventing relapse from alcohol and other drugs. With a strong passion for helping others, Jamie shares his personal experiences and knowledge to make a meaningful difference for the next generation.

Speaker 2: Taylor Hiller

“At 31 years old, Taylor is a testament of resilience and recovery. Having faced addiction early on, what began as casual drinking swiftly escalated into heavier drug use. Thankfully, after rehab and 12-Step fellowship meetings, Taylor achieved lasting sobriety, celebrating eight years this October. During this time, Taylor has built a fulfilling life free from substance misuse. She has created a beautiful family of her own, has travelled, explored various careers, and developed true friendships. Taylor is committed to helping others overcome addiction, and finds great purpose in guiding those struggling with similar challenges, sharing the path to recovery that has transformed her own life”

Speaker 3: Ben Cudmore

Ben is a proud husband and father of three beautiful children. He is a Port Macquarie local. He is the co-founder of local men’s mental health support group Self Seen. After hitting rock bottom in 2018 he had an attempt at taking his own life. He was awarded the Hastings council citizen of the year and self seen was awarded community group of the year in 2023.

Ben is 7 years drug free. Through vulnerability, accountability, transparency, honesty, self care and a lot of hard work fighting the negative thoughts in his head he has come out the other side to give hope to others through his talks and his local mental health support group Self Seen.
