Fancy some bubbles and oysters with a side of science?

Join us for this special event that features ‘Bidhiinja – Restoring Our Reefs,’ a travelling exhibition on display at the Port Macquarie Library, a talk from local Birpai man Wayne Anderson, as well as hear from a couple of our local oyster farmers Karen and Stewart Bale from Port Pearler Oysters. Top it all off with an oyster and sparkling wine tasting! Non-alcoholic options will also be available.

This exhibition has been co-created by DPI Fisheries and the Australian National Maritime Museum. It shares stories of these forgotten reefs by combining First Nations Knowledge, western science and stunning design work by Aboriginal artists.

The plight of oyster reefs has been nearly invisible both locally and globally. Learn about the past, present and future of oyster reefs in Australia, along with the fascinating cultural and ecological significance of these habitats. Augmented reality (AR) allows you to bring an oyster reef to life across the exhibition, and interactives invite you to see what can be found in a midden, turn the wheel to see what a healthy ecosystem looks like, or open the door to explore the art and design of oyster shells.
