ADAM BLUM – Author Talk – Stories behind the storyteller

Friday August 15, 4:30 pm – 5:30 pm
Port Macquarie Library
32 Grant St
Port Macquarie, New South Wales 2444 Australia

Please join us for a discussion with local author and podcaster Adam Blum at our Port Macquarie Library on Friday 15th August at 4.30pm.

Adam’s life journey is a testament to resilience and triumph over adversity. At the age of 22, amidst severe depression and contemplating suicide, a pivotal phone call altered the course of his destiny. Twice saved from the clutches of the ‘black dog’ of depression, Adam now shares his story of overcoming obstacles and forging fortitude. He is a firefighter with the NSW Rural Fire Service, lives on the mid North coast, Port Macquarie, and hosts the successful podcast, True Blue Conversations (formerly True Blue History).

Adam is a published author of Easy Target: Taming the Black Dog, and he hopes that Easy Target will empower others to cultivate their inner strength and face life’s challenges head-on. Adam’s hobbies include going to the gym, recording veterans and first responders’ stories on his podcast True Blue Conversations, swimming at the beach, riding his motorbike, and doing ice baths. The main reason I joined Beyond Blue to volunteer in the speaker program is to share my lived experiences, being an easy target and victim of bullying with no hope, to forging fortitude and resilience to battle the bullies and the black dog of depression. My hope in sharing my story with others is to empower them and give them a roadmap to cultivating inner strength and a belief in a brighter future, and that there is always light at the end of the dark tunnel.

‘I was an easy target. You didn’t have to be a trained sniper to take the shot.’

Easy Target – Taming the Black Dog is the inspirational story of a young man’s journey from being an easy target and victim of bullying to forging fortitude and resilience in order to battle the bullies and the black dog of depression.

Adam bares his soul, sharing the heartbreaking and, at times, humorous moments that shaped his resilience. In a candid exploration of his experiences leading to a descent into depression, Adam reveals the decision to take his own life and the phone call that changed his destiny. Easy Target outlines the real-life steps he undertook to overcome his darkest days and reshape his perspective. Including poignant moments of self-discovery and his journey to recovery, Adam’s story is a testament to the human spirit’s capacity for transformation and renewal.

Enriched with contributing chapters by best-selling authors, Easy Target is a beacon of hope for others, an empowering roadmap to cultivating inner strength and a belief for a brighter future.
