SUMMARY:TERRA ROAM - Author Talk - Stories behind the storyteller
DESCRIPTION:Please join Leanne for an adventure from your chair with Terra Roam at our Port Macquarie Library on Saturday 2nd November at 10.30am.\n \nTerra Roam\, the name says it all: travelling the Earth and connecting to the landscape. Born with a spirit of adventure\, Terra has travelled far and wide\, immersing in wild places and world cultures. A strong passion for justice and conservation\, Terra has devoted this life to raising awareness and fighting for a more compassionate world. It has not been without its challenges. \nAutism has given Terra a different perspective and determination to surmount any obstacles along the path. Living in close connection with nature has taught valuable lessons of survival. An accomplished expeditioner\, achieving multiple records and facing failures\, Terra carries these life-changing experiences with humility\, humour and enjoys nothing more than sharing it all so others can also live full and empowered lives. \nAre Ya Right\, Mate?\n“Go for a walk\,” suggested the psychologist. Four and half years later\, Terra became the first female to walk solo and unsupported around Australia\, all in aid of suicide prevention. Not only did the 17\,200-kilometre walk set a distance record\, but Terra became a roadside counsellor\, helping thousands of people on their own paths to mental health recovery. \nAs Terra faces down wild dogs\, staggers through dust storms\, and battles exhaustion\, the story also delves into lifelong experiences of depression\, PTSD\, anxiety\, autism and identity. This is a real-life recounting of surviving and thriving\, no matter the odds. \n The book can be used as a guide for healing\, hiking and connecting with Australia’s wild\, wonderful\, majestic natural places\, but above all to living life to the full.

SUMMARY:Contemplative Meditation
DESCRIPTION:Join Lucy at Port Macquarie Library on Saturday November 2nd at 12.30pm for Contemplative Meditation \nContemplative Meditation takes many forms. Lucy’s format is an adaptation of the ancient practice of Lectio Divina\, which includes “art” as part of the practice\, as developed  by Dr. Tina Bailey in 2010. \n\nLucy Mitchell is mother of 3\, a gypsy at heart\, and an explorer and practitioner of evolving consciousness.  She is a trained anthropologist\, teacher of meditation and breathwork\, and facilitator of authentic relating experiences and ceremonies.  Lucy has studied extensively and brings a range of methods and practices for exploring and developing personal and group consciousness.  New to Port Macquarie\, Lucy is offering introductory sessions to anyone who would like to experience contemplative meditation (CM) or authentic relating (AR). Future sessions will build on these\, and other offerings may include introductions to breath\, tantra\, de-armouring and kindfulness.  Lets evolve together!\n\nThe process involves listening\, reflection\, brief sharing (optional) and silence\, following the four stages of Lectio Divina ( Lectio (“reading”\, Meditatio (“meditation”)\, Oratio ( “prayer”)\, Contemplatio ( “Contemplation”) . With a guide for each stage\, we sit quietly in a playful and unstructured exploration of the words\, images or ideas that emerge during each of the stages\, using pencil\, paint\, pastels or simply pens.  The focus is on process and not on an end result\, freeing the mind to imagine without fear of judgement\, and typically leaving a feeling of peaceful or settled appreciation of the present moment.  There is a spiritual element to this practices which is central and universal\, and is not religious. We practice using our whole selves to listen and receive wisdom through the contemplative practice. \nIf you can bring pencils\, watercolour paints\, pastels or materials for your use\, we will provide paper and some materials to share with anyone who can’t bring anything or forgets! No prior experience needed! \n

SUMMARY:BENJAMIN STEVENSON - Author Talk - Stories behind the storyteller
DESCRIPTION:Please join Leanne in welcoming Benjamin Stevenson for an author chat and a giggle at our Port Macquarie Library on Saturday 9th November at 6.00pm.  Light refreshments will be served prior to the event.  \nBenjamin Stevenson is an award-winning stand-up comedian and USA Today best-selling author. He is the author of the globally popular ‘Ernest Cunningham Mysteries’\, including Everyone In My Family Has Killed Someone\, which is currently being adapted into a major HBO TV series\, and Everyone on This Train is a Suspect. His books have sold over 750\,000 copies in twenty-nine territories and have been nominated for eight ‘Book of the Year’ awards. \nHis latest mystery is Everyone This Christmas Has A Secret. \nEveryone This Christmas Has A Secret.\nBenjamin Stevenson returns with a festive addition to his bestselling Ernest Cunningham mysteries\, Everyone This Christmas Has A Secret. \nWhen a Christmas show takes a dark turn after a magician’s guillotine trick goes awry\, who should be in the front row? After solving the cases of his murderous family and an ill-fated train trip filled with crime writers\, Ernest Cunningham finds himself slipping back into the shoes of detective to unravel not one but two tricksy crimes. \nWith a suspect covered in blood and no memory of how it got there\, a victim impossibly decapitated by a piece of paper\, and a cast of characters who are all masters of illusion\, this is not panning out to be the Merry Christmas Ernest had hoped for. \nSomeone’s head must roll but as Ernest becomes embroiled in the case\, he finds\, in an ingenious sleight of hand\, this is not a matter of who wanted the victim dead\, but who got there first… \nEverybody Loves a Christmas Spin-Off and this perfectly giftable novella is the star atop the tree. Following the success of Everyone In My Family Has Killed Someone and Everyone On This Train Is A Suspect\, and their joyful interpretation of The Golden Age Mystery\, Benjamin has again turned the genre on its head with this standalone Christmas special. Where we would normally find footprints in the snow and blood on the holly\, our detective is instead placed in the Blue Mountains during a scorching December with many a Yuletide clue\, from the presents to the advent calendar. \nIn classic Stevenson style we have suspense and devious puzzles\, fun and humour\, all tied together with a neat bow. When he isn’t writing mysteries\, he’s an award-winning comedian who has sold out live shows from the Melbourne International Comedy Festival all the way to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. \nWitty\, pacy and fiendishly clever\, Everyone This Christmas Has A Secret is one helluva sleigh ride. \nBookface Port Macquarie will be joining us on the day with books to sell … ideal Christmas presents 😉

SUMMARY:SANDIE DOCKER - Author Talk - Stories behind the storyteller
DESCRIPTION:Please join Leanne for a warm and cozy chat with Sandie Docker at our Port Macquarie Library on Tuesday 12th November at 4.30pm.\n \nSandie Docker grew up in Coffs Harbour\, and first fell in love with reading when her father introduced her to fantasy books as a teenager. Her love of fiction began when she first read Jane Austen for the HSC\, but it wasn’t until she was taking a translation course at university that her Mandarin lecturer suggested she might have a knack for writing – a seed of an idea that sat quietly in the back of her mind while she lived overseas and travelled the world. Sandie first decided to put pen to paper (yes\, she writes everything the old-fashioned way before hitting a keyboard) when living in London. Now back in Sydney with her husband and daughter\, she writes every day. \n\nThe Lyrebird Lake Ladies Choir\n‘A Sandie Docker book is like a cup of tea and a biscuit. It’s warm on the inside\, snuggly\, sweet and lots of fun. It touches the heart\, and stimulates the brain.’ Happy Valley Books Read \n‘A choir wasn’t about a single voice. It was about blend\, complementing each other. It was about . . . belonging.’ \nSisters Eleanor and Maggie have been running the Lyrebird Lake Ladies Choir for fifteen years. It has become a haven for the lost and lonely women who have found their home in the stately federation house by the lake. When Eleanor enters the choir into the All Voices Championship\, it offers them all a chance to make up for lost dreams. \nSingle mum Hannah arrives in Lyrebird Lake\, homeless after being widowed and hoping for a new start with her son. With her angelic voice\, Hannah could give the choir a winning edge. But when Eleanor hears her singing a long-forgotten lullaby\, she is transported to her past\, a traumatic time when two teenage girls were banished from their Irish homeland to a faraway country. \nWill Hannah’s arrival mend old wounds\, or will the secret she unknowingly carries tear the sisters apart? \nA lyrical\, deeply moving story of facing secrets\, finding your way back home\, and the power of discovering your voice.

SUMMARY:Authentic Relating
DESCRIPTION:Join Lucy at Port Macquarie Library on Tuesday November 19th at 9.30am for Authentic Relating. \nAuthentic Relating is  opportunity to experience deeper connections\, with yourself and with others. What starts with a simple\, guided meditation grows into a series of games where we observe and notice\, welcome\, reveal (share) and receive surprising insights about ourselves and each other. Lets evolve together!\n\nAuthentic is being real\, honest\, revealed\, and transparent\, allowing others to see\, hear\, and know our inner world. Relating is recognizing that there is someone else on the other side of the relational field\, having a unique experience as rich and complex as our own. The practices – sometimes called games – create opportunity and an invitation to weave the experience of another person with our own\, to create a dynamic dance of both authentic human expression and reception. \nMost people have been conditioned to prioritize their own experience over others\, or others’ experience over their own – authentic relating harmonizes this imbalance.  It brings the focus to the here and now\, and invites us to shed the social scripts we often lean on to navigate through social interactions. \nWe have found that authentic relating provides a space for people to feel a sense of belonging – in themselves and in the world. All  aspects that make us human are welcome in this practice. Where there are divides\, bridges can be built\, worlds can be explored\, and treasures can be discovered. No prior experience is needed! \n

SUMMARY:COURTNEY COLLINS - Author Talk - Stories behind the storyteller
DESCRIPTION:Please join Leanne for a chat with Courtney Collins at our Port Macquarie Library on Wednesday 20th November at 5.30pm.\n \nCourtney is an author\, screenwriter and producer. Her first novel\, The Burial\, (Allen & Unwin 2012) was published in ten countries and shortlisted for numerous prizes\, including the Nita B Kibble Literary Award\, NSW Premier’s Literary Award for New Writing and the Stella Prize. The Burial is currently being adapted as a feature film. Courtney holds a Master of Creative Writing and is completing a PhD titled ‘Working Against Whiteness in Creative Literary Production’. She lived in the remote Northern Territory for eight years before relocating to the Mid North Coast. In 2019\, she travelled to the Himalayan region of Himachal Pradesh\, India\, to research BIRD. She presents and co-produces @areyoustillworkingpodcast \nBIRD\nFor fans of Margaret Atwood and Holly Ringland\, Bird is an unforgettable novel about hope and resilience from one of Australia’s most exciting emerging writers. \n‘You walk and the harvest moon casts the clearest of shadows. You are nervous. With a moon like that\, it is not a night for escaping. It is a night made better for hunting runaway girls.’ \nHimalayas: Unknown Year ‘Ten thousand strands of trouble\,’ is what Bird’s father says\, watching as Bird’s sister braids her hair. On the eve of her fourteenth year\, that trouble finds Bird. Fleeing her home to escape an arranged marriage\, she attempts to vanish into a crowd of pilgrims – not knowing that violence is circling\, and that it already has its eyes on her. In search of her own life and her own truth\, she could never imagine how long and how far it would take her. \nDarwin: Present Day. Waking in a hospital bed\, Bird tries to remember what brought her here. A man whose gaze she knew to fear\, a stolen car\, a plastic gun\, and a real bullet in her shoulder. Kindness is being offered here\, so why is her instinct always to run? Strand by strand\, she begins to remember… \nA masterful and profoundly moving novel about a girl determined to live on her own terms\, no matter the cost. Bird is an unforgettable story of hope\, resilience\, the power of connection and the most elemental bonds.. \nClaire from Bookface Port Macquarie will be joining us at the event for book sales and signing by Courtney.

SUMMARY:The Library Film Club presents
DESCRIPTION:The Library Film Club presents a film starring Jim Broadbent and Penelope Wilton on Friday November 29th\, 2pm at Port Macquarie Library.  \nBased on the novel by Rachel Joyce\, this film tells a story of quiet heroism and of rediscovery. The otherwise ordinary Harold Fry captivates a nation when he leaves behind routine and regret and sets out on a 450-mile walk of hope to reach his dying friend. His journey is a celebration of life that helps us to realize that failure and loss\, just as much as success and joy\, can shape us for good. This earnest portrayal of universal love is led by Academy Award winner Jim Broadbent and brought to life by Director Hettie Macdonald against the outstanding beauty of the English countryside. \nHarold is an ordinary man who has passed through life\, living on the side lines\, until he goes to post a letter one day…and just keeps walking. \n2023 Running time 1hr 42 min\, Drama – Rated M \nPopcorn provided!
