We will be showcasing at Laurieton Library from 9:30am to 11am\, Wauchope Library from 11:30am to 1pm\, and at Port Macquarie Library from 3pm to 5pm. There will also be a display set up at Port Macquarie library all day with 3D printing for you to watch. We will be demonstrating 3D printing\, VR technology\, and video games through Nintendo Switch 2 and the new NexPlayground. No bookings required\, come along\, have some fun and try something new!

DESCRIPTION:2026 Seniors Festival Exhibition – Living Life in Colour \nJoin us at Port Macquarie Library Tuesday 10th March at 4.30pm for the opening of a special exhibition celebrating the creativity and stories shared during the first week of Seniors Festival\, with satellite displays also on show at Wauchope and Laurieton Libraries. \nThe exhibition features participant works from: \n\nPainting in the Park sessions with The Seed Art School\nMindful Photography workshops with Cherie Morton (Reimaged Images)\nIntergenerational Creative Collages with Casey Baldwin (Intergen Connect)\n\nCommunity members are warmly invited to attend the opening to hear about the stories and experiences behind the artworks and meet some of the people involved. \nNo bookings required\, all are welcome. \nThe exhibition will be on display until Saturday 14 March.

Dancing served as an escape from the hardship of penal life\, creating moments of joy\, cultural connection\, and community. Even in Port Macquarie\, a remote convict settlement from 1821 to 1832\, there are glimpses of this lively\, human side of history. \nThis exhibition offers a unique opportunity to experience these forgotten stories and reimagine our understanding of convict culture. \nThe Dancing in Fetters exhibition runs from Monday\, 13th October to Saturday\, 1st November. \nWe look forward to welcoming you as we celebrate this special launch and connect with the vibrant heritage of Port Macquarie’s past.

SUMMARY:Bidhiinja - Restoring our Oyster Reefs
DESCRIPTION:Fancy some bubbles and oysters with a side of science? \nJoin us for this special event that features ‘Bidhiinja – Restoring Our Reefs\,’ a travelling exhibition on display at the Port Macquarie Library\, a talk from local Birpai man Wayne Anderson\, as well as hear from a couple of our local oyster farmers Karen and Stewart Bale from Port Pearler Oysters. Top it all off with an oyster and sparkling wine tasting! Non-alcoholic options will also be available. \nThis exhibition has been co-created by DPI Fisheries and the Australian National Maritime Museum. It shares stories of these forgotten reefs by combining First Nations Knowledge\, western science and stunning design work by Aboriginal artists. \nThe plight of oyster reefs has been nearly invisible both locally and globally. Learn about the past\, present and future of oyster reefs in Australia\, along with the fascinating cultural and ecological significance of these habitats. Augmented reality (AR) allows you to bring an oyster reef to life across the exhibition\, and interactives invite you to see what can be found in a midden\, turn the wheel to see what a healthy ecosystem looks like\, or open the door to explore the art and design of oyster shells. \nSee the future of our healthy Australian coasts in this beautiful exhibition combining First Nations knowledge\, western science\, and design\, including illustrations by exhibition artist and Yaegl woman Frances Belle Parker. \nFriday April 4th – 6:00-8:00 pm \n

SUMMARY:Bejewelling Shakespeare's Women - Enamel Jewellery Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:Enjoy a beautiful and unique display of enamel jewellery created for the women of Shakespeare from 26th May to 17th June in our Port Macquarie Library. Then join Tessa\, the artist\, as she shares the story of her inspiration for the Bejewelled Shakespeare’s Women on Saturday 17th June at 11.00am in our Port Macquarie Library Meeting Room – bookings essential. \nTessa carefully analyses each play to identify the imagery around and about the women. Each of these images can be depicted graphically. The collection of these graphic images for each woman depicts her character and role in the play. A necklace is designed with these images that create a story. The necklaces are worked in enamel which lends itself to storytelling\, thus making it possible to illustrate Shakespeare’s imagery that he develops for each of his women. The graphic analysis of the imagery and its realisation brings alive the textural imagery of Shakespeare. \nBejewelling Shakespeare’s Women by Tessa Morrison\nThe central characters in Shakespeare’s plays are predominantly males. There are usually only 2 to 4 roles for women\, who are in the minority\, as opposed to the 10 to 20 roles for men. Yet so many of the women’s roles demonstrate fearlessness in defying their situation. Recent scholarship has drawn attention to the power of the women\, and this book builds on this scholarship. With the exception of Cleopatra\, women are not at the apex of political power\, but are always looking at attaining power. Shakespeare entwines their character in textual images within his text\, whether it is the sharp-tongued Beatrice\, the ambitious Lady Macbeth\, or the passionate Juliet. Shakespeare leaves no doubt about their character as he builds an image with words that can be interpreted visually. \nPaintings of the 16th century show images of historical characters such as Cleopatra in contemporary clothing. Images of the Elizabethan and Stewart stage also show contemporary clothing but often with something that signifies their role. For instance\, the only surviving contemporary illustration of a Shakespearian play in action is the Peacham drawing c1595. The drawing is crude and consists of seven figures from the play of Titus Andronicus set in classical Rome. They are wearing contemporary clothing\, the men are wearing 16th century armour\, and the foreign and exotic Queen is wearing an Elizabethan gown. Titus is shown as wearing a ‘toga’\, a shawl draped over his 16th century armour. In the texts of Shakespeare’s period plays there are also references to contemporary garments such as doublets\, night caps\, and laces of girdles.
