Earlybird, Early Literacy Program 2019

a

November 11 @ 10:00 am - 10:45 am

Monday November 11, 10:00 am – 10:45 am
Port Macquarie Library
32 Grant St
Port Macquarie, New South Wales 2444 Australia

The Early Bird, Early Literacy program at the Port Macquarie Hastings Library is a literacy program for parents and their babies, 12 months and under.

The program is designed to give parents an opportunity to share and experience the love of reading with their baby. The program gives parents practical ideas on using stories, rhymes, songs and music to help babies develop early literacy skills.

Each session explores the use of board books, song, percussion instruments and other props, such as puppets, to share the literacy experience.

This program will be conducted across 2 sessions on Monday 11 and Monday 18 November from 10:00am to 10:45am. By registering for this event you are committing to attending both sessions.

Sessions are followed by light refreshments and an opportunity to meet other parents.

This event is free and bookings are limited per session and therefore parents are encouraged to take part in the Early Bird, Early Literacy program just once.

FAQs:

Q. At what age can my baby attend the Early bird, Early Literacy program?
A. We suggest no younger than 3 months and up to the age of 12 months

Q. Do I need to be a Library Member to attend the program?
A. No… but it is great if you have a card as you will be able to borrow the many follow up resources

Q. What do you need to get a Library card?
A. Something that shows your local address eg: driver’s licence

Q. How many Early Bird, Early Literacy programs can I book into?
A. Due to the high demand, we ask that parents book into only one program.

Q. What happens after Early Bird, Early Literacy?
A. The Library also runs Baby Bounce at each of the Library Branches, for babies to the age of 12 months, throughout the year. Find out more about Children’s Services at your Library at www.mnclibrary.org.au

Q. Can both parents or grandparents attend the program?
A. We welcome any of the Baby’s adult family members along to participate.

Q. Do I need to bring anything special along to the program?
A. There is nothing extra you will need to bring.

Q. What do I do if I am unable to attend either week of the program?
A. We would appreciate a phone call or email to let us know . An arrangement can then be made for an alternate session.

Q. Can I bring my older child along with my Baby to the program?
A. We understand that sometimes it is impossible to arrange alternative childcare, however we see the Early Bird, Early Literacy program as time to focus on your Baby alone to provide maximum gain to your Baby’s early literacy experience.

We look forward to seeing you at Early Bird, Early Literacy!
