Is there life after Rebus?

On the basis of the new novel from Ian Rankin "Doors Open" the answer is a resounding No. One dimensional characters, absurd storyline and most unforgivable of all no humour. This is no longer Rebus’s Edinburgh. Rather it more like the Edinburgh we Glaswegians love to hate, dull, bleak and a bit snooty. If we can no longer have John, can we at least have Siobhan?

New fiction for younger readers

Just received today at the library are the latest titles from 3 popular authors:

Emily Rodda, Isobelle Carmody and Anthony Horowitz.

Emily Rodda is an Australian author best known for the Deltora Quest series, as well as Rowan of Rin and

the Raven Hill mysteries. The Wizard of Rondo is the second book in the Rondo series, following on from

The Key to Rondo.

Isobelle Carmody, another Australian author, writes for teenagers as well as younger readers.

Her Obernewtyn series (for teens/adults) is just fabulous (obviously a personal favourite!).

A Riddle of Green is the 4th book in the Legend of Little Fur series, and is for younger readers.

Anthony Horowitz writes both junior and teen fiction and is probably best known for his teenage

spy series Alex Rider. They are hugely popular, the latest and 7th in the series is Snakehead.

Necropolis, also written for teenagers, is the 4th book in the Power of Five series.

Wings over the Hastings...

\A book exploring the history of the Hastings District Flying Club has just been published. "Come fly with me", written by local author Elaine van Kempen, looks back over the first 50 years of the aero club and how aviation has changed in the Hastings. With many old photos and lots of interesting stories this book will no doubt bring back memories for some of our longer term residents and provide insight into what inspired 'those magnificent young men in their flying machines'. The book will be available in the Port Macquarie Local Studies Room.
