Noeline will talk about strategies to get you to the desk and writing, and will provide practical ideas from her own writing and her work with supporting family historians for more than 30 years.

In this workshop you will learn how to identify and choose a format for writing family stories, understand and apply strategies to plan and create your characters, construct chapters and apply the basics of writing/rewriting, editing and planning a text.

Noeline Kyle - Author Talk

Not so ordinary women: research and writing about women in Australian History

Noeline Kyle began researching mid north coast midwives in 1979 when writing a biography of her great grandmother Nurse Mary Kirkpatrick.  A retired academic and Emeritus Professor at QUT, Noeline  publishes  women’s history, biography and memoir, and books on writing family history. Noeline continues the research and writing of women’s history as an Honorary Professor at the University of Sydney. She continues her support of women’s,  local and family history  through her voluntary work with local museums and historical societies, and her community workshops/seminars, many publications and web page www.writingfamilyhistory.com.au

Based on the Kurdish people’s struggle for self-determination and human rights in Turkey, Syria, Iraq, and Iran, Rite of Honour reflects the lives of thousands of Middle Eastern women.

Alison Buckley has an Arts Degree in Politics and History and teaches secondary school English and History.  Her first two historical novels inspired Rite of Honour on today’s women guerrilla fighters of Kurdistan.
