Stories shared all around Australia!

National Simultaneous Storytime 23 May 2012

Organised by the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA), National Simultaneous Storytime promotes the value of reading and literacy, the importance of Australia’s book industry and the role of libraries. We recommend to all that they look up their local libraries and join in with 170000 kids around Australia at 11am on the 23rd of May when we read The Very Cranky Bear written and illustrated by Nick Bland.

'The Very Cranky Bear' will be shared at our libraries during Storytime....BYO teddies!  Contact your local library for details.

We had a terrific time during the April School Holidays!

There was something special for everyone during the holidays!   Plus there were creepy crawlies in every nook and cranny and an infestation of writing bugs at Port Macquarie Library.  Participants left our libraries  with either bug brooches, beautiful butterflies, bug collages, a headful of bug information and a truck load of scary stories.

As well, we celebrated the 4th Cosplay event with a parade of amazing costumes with great manga artworks on show plus Japanese craft & sushi to share.

The holidays at our libraries saw young writers, artists, scientists, storytellers and Cosplayers in action.  Thank you to all who took part in activities and helped celebrate the National Year of Reading in such a special way!

Please check the library website for July School Holidays schedule two weeks prior to the holidays.  Book early to avoid disappointment.

Check our photos from the April school holidays!

Summer Readers Program!

Hogwarts, Narnia, Wonderland – what do all of these places have in common? They are all amazing places where stories have taken us.  From the top end to the snow fields, from the outback to the beach, children all over Australia will be taking part in The Amazing Read, the 2011/12 Summer Reading Club program. During the whole of the summer holidays, young library members will be welcome to join in the Summer Reading Challenge.   To be in the running for prizes, Junior Borrowers will need to fill out their individual Reading Log

Each Junior Borrower will receive a certificate showing how many books they have read over summer.

And Parents.........if you want more information on the Summer Reading Club....click here

There is also some wonderful information/games & a very cool alien on the Summer Reading Club website so make sure you check it out.
